Drunk Driving Statistics Over the Holidays

Drunk Driving Statistics Over the Holidays

The unofficial start to the holiday season is upon us, and along with it comes a spike in impaired driving accidents as drunk drivers hit the road. In fact, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration statistics show that the number of alcohol-related crashes in the U.S. goes up by about 12 percent between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day.

The Scary Truth

According to AAA, more than 1,600 additional accidents will occur on the roadways compared to a normal day. Other studies show that between 20 percent to 30 percent of the fatal crashes on the roadways are alcohol-related. That figure is even higher among teens.

Plan Ahead and Arrive Alive

The numbers are too alarming to ignore. There simply is no room for any more cars or more alcohol on the road. The holidays can be a very dangerous time to be on the road. A lot of people will be traveling at the same time. We encourage everyone to plan ahead for a safe ride if they're planning to drink.

If you do plan to be part of the carpool or party group, it's important to remain sober or use alternate transportation, if possible.
