Less Traffic, More Danger?

Everyone’s noticed significantly less traffic on the road. However, fewer vehicles have not necessarily made the roadways safer.

Incidents of speeding and reckless driving have increased noticeably in recent months. A less-traveled road does not mean you can let your guard down. It pays to pay attention to.

Drive defensively and stay aware

You should always be aware of your surroundings, even if it seems like you are the only vehicle on the road. A person traveling at a dangerous rate of speed can appear in the blink of an eye.

If you see a vehicle coming up fast from behind, get into an unoccupied lane, if possible. If you’re on a single lane road, pull over where it’s safe to do so and let the other vehicle pass. It’s not worth risking an accident, even if you happen to be in the right.

What happens if you’re hurt?

Unfortunately, you can be the safest driver in the world and still suffer severe injuries from a reckless motorist. If you find yourself seriously hurt in a car accident, you may be able to pursue compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and other damages. You can also help send a message that negligent drivers are not welcome in Kentucky.

Don’t be lulled into complacency

An empty road may seem safe, but appearances can be deceiving. You may even be tempted to put a little more lead into your foot. However, doing so can have tragic consequences. Continue to take safe driving measures and help protect yourself and others this summer.
