Family law cases include issues such as divorce, paternity, child support, alimony, and domestic violence and many others. These cases, by the very nature of the situation, can be incredibly stressful and traumatic. That is why its important to make sure you work with an attorney experienced in this area of the law.
Uncontested Divorces – In many instances, our clients have already discussed the specifics of a divorce with their spouse and reached an agreement on most, if not all, issues. In those instances, we will meet with our client, gain an understanding of the proposed agreement and related issues, and advise as to whether the proposed agreement is in our client’s best interest. We would then endeavor to draft a formal, proposed agreement that can be presented to our client’s spouse (or spouse’s attorney) to hopefully resolve the case on an “uncontested” basis. In these instances, we charge a “fixed fee”, plus applicable court costs. Contact us for more information.
Contested Divorces and Other Related Family Law Matters – Frequently, our clients are unable to effectively communicate with their spouse and/or have not discussed a proposed agreement. In those instances, and for most other related family law matters, Mr. Wheat and Mr. Katz charge their standard hourly rate. We charge our regular hourly rates for consultations.
Our office customarily operates on a retainer basis. We will collect an initial retainer (to be determined at the initial consultation based upon the complexity of the issues presented) which remains your money until it is earned. Bills are mailed monthly. Subsequent retainers will be required monthly to restore the escrow balance to the agreed upon sum. Any portion of any retainer unearned at the conclusion of the case will be refunded.
Additional charges, terms, and conditions may apply to our representation which will be fully set forth in a written fee agreement if you retain us.
